Monthly Folk Jam

Join us the 2nd Thursday of each month from 7pm to 10pm at The Red Leprechaun in Long Beach, CA for an open folk jam session that welcomes both beginners & experienced pickers alike. While the focus of the jam session is Bluegrass music, all folk styles are welcomed.

The format is a traditional circle jam session as you might find at any of the popular Bluegrass sessions here in SoCal. We recognize that this format of playing is intimidating to the new-comer, so we have decided to do something a little different so we can help introduce a new generation of musicians to this format of playing music. To facilitate this we will be providing a listing of songs as well as basic chord charts for these songs on this page which many in the folk community consider to be “standards”. These are for the novice who would like to get familiar with the music before attending the session. We understand this is not the typical way a new-comer would learn these songs, but it does help accelerate the interest by people who might not come otherwise.

The night will start with a session from 7pm to 8pm. We ask that more experienced players form the inner circle and novice players on the outside circle. All players should be respectful of each other and song choices should be “standard” tunes unless submitted prior to the event. From 8pm to 9pm we will have a Featured Artist play an all acoustic set. Closing out the night we will have our second session from 9pm to 10pm.

If you would like to be a Featured Artist, please email us at:
